Drainage, Excavating & Demolition on Long Island
Superior Earthworks handles the dirt work behind every solid property on Long Island: getting water off the land, digging for what comes next, and taking down what has to go.
Drainage Solutions That Keep Water Away From Your Home
Standing water in the yard, a soggy lawn that never dries out, water against the foundation or seeping into the basement after every heavy rain: these are drainage problems, and they rarely fix themselves. Superior Earthworks finds where the water is coming from and where it needs to go, then builds the solution into the ground.
Depending on the property, that can mean regrading the yard so it pitches away from the house, cutting swales to carry runoff, or running underground drainage pipe to move roof, driveway and low-spot water away from the foundation. Every drainage job is finished with clean grading so the yard looks right and works during the next nor'easter.
Excavating for Foundations, Additions, Pools and Utilities
New homes, additions, basements, garages, in-ground pools, footings and utility trenches all start with excavation done to the plans. We dig to the right depth and dimensions, keep the spoil organized, protect the parts of the property that are staying, and backfill and grade when the work is in. Builders get a site that is ready for the next trade on schedule, and homeowners get a crew that respects their property and their neighbors.

Residential and Commercial Demolition
Sheds, detached garages, decks, old additions, concrete patios, walkways, pool decks and full houses before a rebuild: Superior Earthworks takes them down with modern equipment and hauls the debris away. Demolition is planned around what needs protecting, from trees and driveways to fences and the house next door. Before demolition starts, check permit requirements with your town or village building department and make sure utilities are disconnected; we will go over what to confirm when we look at the job.
Land Clearing and Land Grading
Overgrown lots and wooded parcels are cleared of brush, small trees and stumps, then rough-graded for construction or a usable yard. Large commercial areas and residential lots are graded to the right pitch so water drains properly and the ground is ready for sod, seed, pavement or a building pad. Sod and seed installation and tree and shrub removal are available from the same crew.

Drainage, Excavating & Demolition FAQs
Why does water collect in my yard or against my foundation?
Most of the time the ground is pitched the wrong way or a low spot has nowhere to drain. Over the years soil settles next to the house and slopes back toward it. Regrading, swales or underground drainage pipe can move the water away. Call (631) 337-8050 and we will look at where the water is going.
Should I fix the grading before putting in a new lawn or patio?
Yes. Sod, seed and pavers all sit on the grade underneath them, so if the ground pitches toward the house or holds water, the new surface inherits the same problem. Getting the grade and drainage right first protects the investment, and we can install sod or seed on the finished grade.
Do you handle both excavation and demolition on the same project?
Yes. A common job is demolishing an old structure, removing the debris and foundation, then excavating and grading for the new one. Keeping demolition, excavation and grading with one crew keeps the project simpler to schedule.
Do I need a permit to demolish a shed, garage or house on Long Island?
Permit rules vary by town and village, so check with your local building department before work begins. Larger demolition generally requires a permit and utility disconnects. New York also requires calling 811 before digging so underground utilities are marked.
