Locally owned site work from the Nassau line to the East End, built around Long Island's glacial ground.

Excavation, Grading & Demolition Services in Suffolk County

Suffolk County covers about 911 square miles and ten towns, from Babylon and Huntington in the west to Southold and East Hampton on the forks. The ground across all of it was laid down by glaciers. According to the county's own hazard profile, the older Ronkonkoma Moraine runs through the middle of the Island, the younger Harbor Hill Moraine lines Long Island Sound, and outwash sand and gravel cover much of the South Shore. Pockets of clay and swamp peat sit where old glacial lakes once were. For excavation that means one county can hold fast-draining sand on one job and soft, wet soil on the next, so foundation digs, pool excavations and drainage work start with a look at what is actually underground.

Water shapes most of our work here. Long Island draws its drinking water from a federally designated sole-source aquifer, and roughly 105,000 acres of the Central Pine Barrens in Brookhaven, Riverhead and Southampton protect part of it. The county also has about 1,000 miles of shoreline, with steep bluffs on the North Shore and barrier beaches on the South Shore. Good grading and drainage keep runoff on the property and away from foundations. Our crews take on excavation, grading, drainage solutions, demolition, land clearing, site preparation, sod and seed, tree and shrub removal, and commercial snow removal for nor'easters that can drop one to two feet.

Suffolk County Excavation & Demolition FAQs

Which parts of Suffolk County do you serve?

Superior Earthworks is a locally owned contractor serving Suffolk County and Nassau County. That includes the western towns like Huntington, Babylon, Smithtown and Islip as well as Brookhaven and points east. Call (631) 337-8050 with your address and project type and we can talk through scheduling and what the job involves.

Why does soil change so much from one Suffolk job to the next?

Glaciers built Long Island. The moraines along the middle and north of the county are hilly and mixed, the South Shore outwash plain is largely sand and gravel, and old lake beds can hold clay or peat. Each one drains and compacts differently, which affects how deep footings go, how runoff should be handled and how a yard should be graded.

Do I need to call 811 before excavation in Suffolk County?

Yes. New York law requires a call to New York 811 before digging so underground utilities such as gas, electric and water lines are marked. This applies to pool excavation, footings, tree stump removal and most grading. Make the request well ahead of the dig date so crews have time to mark the site.

Who issues permits for demolition or grading in Suffolk County?

Permits are generally handled by the town or incorporated village where the property sits, not by the county. With ten towns and 31 villages, rules vary. Check with your local building department before demolition, major regrading or land clearing, and ask whether work near wetlands, bluffs or shoreline needs additional review.

Do you offer commercial snow removal in Suffolk County?

Yes, we plow and clear commercial lots, entrances and drive aisles. Suffolk nor'easters can bring one to two feet of snow with strong winds, so businesses that need to stay open benefit from arranging service before winter. Reach us at (631) 337-8050 to set up seasonal coverage.
